Current Project Vanuatu
Sanma Frangipani Association
Life Aid International is currently liaising with Sanma Frangipani Association (SFA) to investigate the level of unmet need is present for people with disability and health and wellbeing conditions. The purpose of this investigation is to assess the degree to which Life Aid International can support the Association.
SFA is based in the Sanma Province of Vanuatu and was established in 2003 as a result of a recognised need for education to children with disability and their families. As a result a Day Care Centre was established. The service is now a Vanuatu registered NGO that acts on behalf of people with disability and other disadvantaged people across Sanma Province, Vanuatu to encourage full inclusion, equal rights and active participation of people with disability and debilitating health conditions in village communities.
SFA is committed to promoting disability awareness and education, fighting poverty and ignorance. It offers free health care, and specialised and technical education for those in need. It has supported children and adults with physical and intellectual disability including autism, intellectual and developmental delay, mental health issues, cerebral palsy, hearing, speech and visual impairment.
SFA services have included:
• Community based rehabilitation.
• Disability Awareness.
• Educating pre-school teachers, families, caregivers, school leavers and people with disability.
• Rehabilitation training.
• Dysphasia workshops.
• Home nursing care.
• Early intervention.
• First Aid.
• Counselling.
• Disability and sport.
• Vocational workshops.
• Disability and business.
• Wheelchair training and assessment.
Life Aid International is currently sourcing additional training material to support the endeavours of SFA in the Sanma Province. This includes training material in:
• Dysphasia.
• Early intervention.
• Home nursing care.
Life Aid International is also assessing the proposed building of an Assessment Centre to be based in Luganville, Espirato Santo as the service currently operates from a loaned office based in the Provincial Government building.
